Several concert halls, the largest of which can accommodate up to 1,400 listeners, plus intimate and modern rehearsal rooms, workshops and a new park – city officials inform that the Music Center in Krakow is to be designed as planned.
– The Music Center is an extremely important investment for Krakow, which will be the showcase of the city. The idea of creating the Center was born in 2011. The project will include not only the seat of the Philharmonic, but also the concert halls of Sinfonietta Cracovia and Capella Cracoviensis – says Andrzej Kulig, the vice-president of Krakow.
The Music Center is to be established at ul. Skrzatów (Grzegórzki), in the immediate vicinity of the Kurlandzkiego boulevard. The most important elements are the modern concert halls, with the largest, philharmonic hall to accommodate up to 1,400 people. “The so-called municipal concert hall (housing 650-800 students) and a recital room (for 270-300 students). The building will also include spacious rehearsal rooms, a multimedia room and educational space. The total area of the Music Center is approx. 28 thousand. m2, and the cost of the project is approx. PLN 265 million “- as listed by city officials.
The architectural and urban competition for the Music Center in Krakow was announced in August. The competition jury evaluated the proposals submitted by studios from around the world. “Although the task was very difficult, it was possible to decide which one is the most interesting and will be implemented by the end of 2024” – we read on the official city website krakow.pl.
Experts evaluated nine submitted proposals. Among them, the best project was prepared by the Polish-Italian team SBS Engineering Group from Krakow and 3TI Progetti Italia – Ingegneria Integrata SPA from Rome. 150,000PLN went to the authors of the winning idea.
“During the meeting, particular attention was paid not only to the interesting shape of the object, but also the use of modern urban and functional solutions and of course, excellent acoustics” – employees of the Marshal Office inform us.
So when will it be ready? Construction works are to last from 2021 to 2023. The completion date is the end of 2024.
