62 percent of boys and 21 percent of girls in middle school age watch pornographic content, almost half of which does it on a smartphone. A new, dangerous phenomenon is growing in front of our eyes. Children and adolescents watching porn is so dangerous that it is as addictive as drugs and affects the functioning of the brain and can cause sexual dysfunctions in adulthood.
Every second boy in Poland watches pornography – it’s addictive
The research conducted by the Institute of Preventive Health in Poland shows that more than half of boys in Poland have contact with pornography before they turn 12, and as much as 15 percent watch porn at least once a day! This percentage is growing from year to year.
Other studies, from the last two decades, show that excessive consumption of pornography is associated with already known neuro-biological mechanisms typical of those that occur in the case of addictions from alcohol or drugs. According to psychologists, there is a high risk that children who watch porn many times a month may be addicted or are on the verge of addiction.
Sexologists say also those children who accidentally came across porn, especially violence, zoophilia, and animal abuse can affect them well into adulthood.
– From the perspective of psychological effects, such experience can be compared to direct sexual violence, child abuse, even rape – says Joanna Drosio-Czaplińska, a psychologist and therapist specializing in working with victims of traumatic experiences. – The child’s brain can not integrate such an experience, because it lacks operating systems, structures, and the entire apparatus. The earlier they come across pornography, the higher the risk.
Keep in mind that exposure to pornography at these early ages often generates anxiety for the child and can even suffer all the symptoms associated with anxiety and depression. Even obsessing about performing the adult sexual acts they have seen. In addition, children under the age of twelve who have seen pornography are, statistically, more likely to sexually assault their partners in the future.
Parents role
Online research shows that as much as 81 percent of parents of children aged 9-16 are in denial and believe that their children have not watched porn on the Internet. Unfortunately, statistics say that it will only get worse so parents have to deal with it. You can order a paid service blocking pornography websites for a few zlotys a month.
The simplest method: a parental control application from the Play store, downloaded to a phone, such as, for example, Kaspersky SafeKids. This is the basic level of protection that will block anything suspicious. Precise variants require deeper interference in the settings of the phone. By typing in the browser the phrase: “how to protect your phone from porn”, you will find many detailed descriptions step by step for specific models. You just have to take the time to do it.
