Located in Winogrady, just outside the city center, Miss Pank tattoo studio is the brainchild of Agnieszka Panek. From the days when she had a snake secretly tattoed on her back without her parent’s knowledge, she has managed to get a large following in Poznań.
We met up with Agnieszka aka Miss Pank to find out more about how it all got started.
Hi Agnieszka. So why Miss Pank?
Well, my surname is Panek. Plus I love Lady Pank since I was younger. It sort of felt right at the time and I went with it.
When did you have your first tattoo?
I was 18 and I had it made in Joker Tattoo studio in Ostów Wielkopolski which is where I used to live.
What was it?
A large snake on my back! My parents are called Adam and Eve and I thought it was hilarious at the time.
Did you tell them?
About 6 months after. Actually, my grandmother saw it after a week and was shocked. I asked her to not tell my parents. I told them after several months and they were OK with it. Maybe they already knew. I’m not sure.
How many tattoos do you have now?
8 I think.
Any regrets for any of them?
No. Maybe the snake. It was done really well but it has a frogs face which is sort of weird.
You didn’t see the design before having it done?
Those were different times and studios didn’t really prepare the projects as we do now.
Have you always been into art?
Yes. When I finished studies, I became a graphic designer and I had a crazy boss!
Why crazy?
She kept saying she was in contact with angels and was really really religious. I wanted to leave but I wasn’t sure what else to do.
and?
My friends kept telling me to be an artist but Picasso never had any money. I thought about being a tattoo artist and experimented on the sole of my foot to practice. I then started on my friends and realized I was good at it.
then?
I was working out of a small studio I had at home then I decided to look for a place to make it more official and Miss Pank was born.
What do you like most?
I love the part where I design a project. Its where I can be most creative. I also love talking with clients while making tattoos. I have met many interesting people!
Below are a few of our favorite tattoos created by Agnieszka
You’re a female so do you get mostly female clients?
70% of my clients are girls but not just because I’m female. I think its mainly because many of my tattoos are bright and colorful.
How would you describe your style?
Lots of watercolors and sketching.
Do you have a favorite tattoo artist?
Not really. My favorite artist is Dali. He is amazing. I try not to look at other tattoo artists projects so as not to be inspired by them and accidentally make something similar. Instead, I look to artists for inspiration or a Steven King movie for example ?
I heard you watch a lot of movies!
Hahaha. Yes. I watch a minimum of a movie a day. I must have watched the whole Harry Potter series 20 times. I often watch a movie with a client if they fancy.
Favorite movie?
Any Quentin Tarantino movie or Alfred Hitchcock ?
Favorite music?
Rock and punk rock and sometimes rap also.
Actor?
Nicolas Cage.
Actress?
Emma Stone.
Well, its been a pleasure meeting with you. Finally, tell us what your dream project would be?
A poster for a movie. That would be amazing!
